Bed Bug Infestation Signs And When To Call Pest Control

In some entertainment shows in the past, we’ve all heard the phrase ” Don’t let the bed bugs bite.” It was always a phrase catering to kids to help them sleep better.

However, for others, it may not be the case at all. Bed bugs don’t help you sleep. They are a nuisance that can prevent you from sleeping if not taken care of properly.

It’s essential to keep an eye out for bed bug infestation signs. Continue reading to learn what they are and when you should call pest control services.

1. Itchy Skin

A sure sign you have a bedbug-infested mattress is how itchy your skin is when you wake up. When bed bugs bite you, you’ll see small red bumps on your skin that will cause some irritation.

You’ll also see a distinct pattern when you’re bitten, usually in the form of a line. It can help with distinguishing the bites from mosquitoes or fleas. Fortunately, bed bugs don’t carry diseases, so their bites are usually harmless.

2. Small Bloodstains on Your Sheets

Why do humans attract bed bugs? Due to our body heat, the carbon dioxide released from when we exhale, and our blood, we’re the ultimate treat for bed bugs.

So a common sign you’ll see if you have a bed bug infestation is bloodstains on your sheets. Two things can cause them:

  • Rolling over in your sleep and squishing a bed bug while they’re feeding
  • The remaining residue after they’re finished

If you see any bloodstains on your bed when you wake up, call pest control. Otherwise, you’ll be dealing with these creatures for a while.

3. Bed Bug Shells

An early bed bug infestation sign is the shells and eggs they leave behind after they’re done eating. As bed bugs feed on your blood, they get bigger, resulting in them shedding their exoskeleton and laying eggs.

Bed bug eggs are small, white, and usually in a cluster. However, they’re smaller than regular insect eggs, so they may be hard to spot. But, if you see any exoskeletons on your mattress, you likely have bed bugs.

4. Dark Spots on Your Mattress and Wall

If you find any dark, rust-colored spots on your mattress, it may be a sign of bed bug infestation. These stains are usually the result of bed bug excrements resulting from a large cluster.

However, your mattress isn’t the only place you’ll find a bed bug infestation. You may also see dark-colored spots on your walls or under the wallpaper. Inspect these areas to ensure there’s no infestation.
